At St. Genevieve Catholic School, our curriculum provides a comprehensive and challenging academic experience rooted in faith. Since our founding in 1945, religion has been the cornerstone of everything we do. Our dedicated faculty works in partnership with parents to nurture the intellectual, emotional, social, cultural, and physical development of each child, celebrating the unique gifts God has given them.  Our culture of family can be seen even in the classrooms as students work together in groups, stations, and through innovative learning experiences.

Our rigorous academic program aligns with the Louisiana Department of Education’s Comprehensive Curriculum Grade Level Standards. We continually review and select educational programs that provide a strong foundation for learning, opportunities for differentiated instruction, and a focus on rigor and critical thinking. Technology is integrated into all subjects to enhance learning and prepare students for the future. Our classrooms are equipped with Chromebooks and are one-to-one in grades first through eighth.

Faith in Every Subject

The heart of our curriculum is our religious education program, which teaches the truths and traditions of the Catholic faith from Pre-K3 through 8th grade. More than a single subject, faith is woven into the fabric of our entire school dayOur teachers are not only educators, but also faith-filled mentors who model Christian values and service to help guide our students. This commitment creates a nurturing environment where students can grow in their relationship with God and bring the presence of Christ to others.

Key Areas of Study

Our core curriculum includes:

  • Language Arts: For students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, we use the Wonders program to build strong foundational skills in reading, writing, and grammar. This comprehensive approach fosters a love of reading and prepares students for the rigors of upper elementary and junior high literature study.  Our 6th through 8th grade ELA students experience literature that focuses on various genres through novel unit studies.  They focus on important skills that allow a deep dive into their reading and also prepares them for important skills in research, grammar, writing, and speaking and listening through creative presentations.
  • Mathematics & Science: Hands-on learning experiences in the classroom help students develop problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of core scientific and mathematical principles.  We use an I Do, We Do, You Do approach to learning that walks students through important concepts to help them apply and be successful.
  • Social Studies: Our curriculum explores history, geography, and civics, helping students understand the world, state, and local community around them and their role as responsible citizens.
  • Electives: Students can explore their talents and interests through our elective courses, which include Physical Education, Library, STEM, Art, and Tech & Learn (a computer-skills class for 1st & 2nd grades).

Our Commitment to Excellence

We are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience that prepares students for success in high school and beyond. We are also committed to developing the whole child by nurturing their unique gifts to prepare them for lifelong success as they leave us proudly as Cardinals.
